  hello friends, .

  i would like some advice from those that are inpartial, and are familiar with the teachings of jw.

  i studied with a wonderful jw couple weekly for 3 years.

  I was never told that JW's were expected to believe the same thing.

  They never told me that either, or I wouldn't have joined. There is a lot they don't tell you when you study. Even after being baptised for years, there is a lot you aren't told. They misrepresent and withhold information, and if you challenge them, then they come down on you with all this stuff, and you're like, WTF? I've been in 15 years and didn't know they can take my family away from me for not believing xyz?!

  This religion bears most of the hallmarks of a cult.

  The reason you've never come up against the uniformity of thought imposed on JWs is you have avoided the WT. The Bible can be interpreted various ways and there is no end to what you can learn about it, but the journey into Jehovah's Witnessdom quickly becomes an exercise into conforming your views to what the Watchtower says the Bible says about things, not what the Bible says itself.

  so i go to that dinner with my parents.

  it worked great!

  i think i increased my mom's cog dis just by showing her i am the same good person, and having fun.

  Six years , new location , no love.

  i had never thought about this that much until now.

  my wife and i have been living in this community for over 6 years now , and nobody has ever called upon my wife or myself for that matter, to encourage us back to the meetings as jehovahs witnesses , who have become inactive /faded .. the same goes for my son and his wife , who live in the same area , have never been contacted with the intent of trying to re-activate them.. admittedly, only a couple of times in these past 6 years we both my son and i , have had witnesses call upon us in the normal d2d work , without acknowledging if ever they knew we were non practicising witnesses .

  hard to beleive since my neice is in the local congregation , and is aware of our former congregations that we attended .. to cap it off , a few of our "freinds" who know where we are have never ever offered any encouragement or support in trying to get us back to their "truth ".

  It's good they're leaving you alone. I think deep down though, we want to know we made an impact on these people: we didn't. They don't care about us, and it's good because they leave us alone.

  Story of a GB ass-kisser

  i was reading a life story article in the latest watchtower and had a few thoughts about it i thought i'd share here.

  these life story things are always so depressing to me - this one is slightly interesting because it is told by a current "governing body helper".. it's called "full time ministry - where it has led me.

  " reading it i just got the impression that this guy (robert) was aiming to be a gb member but fell short and ended up being a gb "helper".

  UN & Recent Catholic development & The future of organized religion

  there were recent two posts that got me to thinking...the first was on the topic of if rank and file should be excused and the second was from a person whose mother who was in her 80s excited about the un and the catholic child abuse issue, believing the great tribulation was near.. as with the ways of the world, eventually the governments may get tired of all the abuses that are perpetrated by religions against their citizens; and action maybe be taken.

  it can quickly become a worldwide human rights issue, as not many citizens actually condone child abuse.. of course if organized religion is turned upside down, a great amount of wealth may return to the governments, which could begin to bring the world economy back into balance.. so, it appears at this point in time there is a possibility that the u.n. may turn on religion eventually.

  (like the jw speak?

  Most Annoying Things That Happen At JW Meetings

  today i was remembering how angry i used to get at the meetings and all the little irritations that in the end would just make my blood boil these included:.

  prayers that go on foreverstudy or wt conductors still taking comments when its clear that the point has been covered 20 times alreadymeetings over running by more than 5 minsmy favourite was this one elder who would play guess the point i am thinking of.

  he would keep rephrasing the question from the wt until someone would bring up the point he was thinking of.

  Sisters who talk about nothing but their illnesses and ailments before and after every meeting.

  When you walk up to a couple of sisters in conversation and they completely fail to acknowledge you existence with even a little eye contact.

  Sister "Me, Myself and I" who was 46 and still lived with her parents and in wt every comment she ever made talked all about herself.

  The newly baptized convert whose every wt comment was this breathlessly being thrilled to be in the "truth" and what a blessing it was.

  Wt comments prefaced with, " in Christendom they do xyz, but in Jehovah's organization we do abc..." Using contrast to tear down "Christendom" to make jws look so much better.

  Brothers giving talks who mangled grammar ( native English speakers; you can forgive those whose first language us other than English) and historical and scientific facts.

  Brothers who year after year used the same illustrations or examples in their public talks.

  when brothers and sisters got laid off by cyclical business contractions, did you ever hear the elders preach "if you can't find a good job, join the pioneer list because satan hates when your working for jehovah and will find you a great paying job!".

  we had a brother who worked for the defense industry, he worked for a military contractor and left his job after becoming a witness.

  a degree in electrical engineering with software development as a team leader.

  If you pioneer and land a good job, it's Jehovah blessing you. If you pioneer and land a good job and have to stop pioneering, it's Satan tempting you. Who gets the credit? Never the person who worked hard to get what he/she has.

  Authoritarian regimes traditionally go one of two ways: they become more liberal and go more mainstream, as the Soviet Union did with glastnost and perestroika, or they become more radical like Hitler and North Korea. I see the GB becoming more radical.
